Turn for the Troops

1235 Pens were completed Saturday November 7, 2020

The Southwest Idaho Wood Turners Association, the Magic Valley Wood Turners Association and the Idaho Woodworkers have worked together and have made over 16,000 slim line writing pens to our troops overseas and stateside over the last 18 years.

Each November both clubs have turned teamed up with the Boise Woodcraft Supply in Boise to turn and construct these pens.  Woodcraft supplies all the pen components and the members collect the wood, turn, finish and assemble the pens in one day.

There is a lot of preparatory planning and organization that goes into this effort on the part of the organizers, Aaron Cornell and Steve Young.   Steve Young, a longtime member of the club started the event.   During this year is was especially difficult given the restrictions due to social distancing requirements.  Club members turned the pens at home and then they assembly was finished and the pens were packaged for shipment
